Story 1
Carlos Miller is 29 years-old and has been an athlete for Special Olympics for 5 years. He was recruited to play basketball by his cousin, and has been involved ever since. He plays basketball and track and field and is an accomplished athlete. Last year, he broke the state record for long jump- a moment he described as "a great feeling." In addition to being an athlete, Carlos is a Global Messenger for Special Olympics. Global Messengers are selected to speak around the state to various groups about their experience as an athlete. Carlos is available for speaking engagements with the help of his mentor.
There is never a dull moment in Carlos' life: he has two jobs and is working towards getting his GED. He works at Wendys and owns a landscaping business here in Roanoke. His family is important to him, and he regularly attends church. Carlos has the ability to light up a room with his smile and genuine interest in everyone he meets. His memory is impressive; he will remember you long after you have met.
